EASIEST Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs 🥚

easiest instant pot hard boiled eggs

Being able to make a mess of hard boiled eggs all at once was one of the big selling points when I got my Instant Pot. I mean, yes, I know how to make them on the stove and all. And I’ve had every egg-making gadget under the sun.

But an all-in-one appliance that could promise predictably fuss-free Instant Pot hard boiled eggs? I was SO IN. Until I joined an Instant Pot community, that is…

Much Ado over Hard Boiled Eggs 😵

New people ask about making hard boiled eggs, and all of a sudden, people start spouting out opinions and numbers like the secret combination to open the perfect-hard-boiled-egg safe. “7-6-7, 5-5-5, 6-3-5, blah blah blah.”  Turns out, these formulas were cook time, release time and ice-water bath time. But so many numbers…

And by the time I’m figuring out what it all means, I’m getting way bored. Plus, I’m prone to distraction. So my middle 5 could turn into 17 before I know what’s happening. ⏱️😬 I didn’t just need an easy Instant pot recipe. I needed the EASIEST Instant Pot Hard Boiled Egg Recipe.

If I was a ‘timing-everything-perfectly’ sort of cook, I wouldn’t need the danged Instant Pot! So I experimented until I found an approach that’s better suited to my laissez-faire cooking style. That would be this! Let the egg-making commence. 👏

☺ Stuff You May Want

✏ What’s in This Thing

  • 1 cup water

  • 18 large eggs straight from the fridge

⚡ Making This Thing

  • Add water to the bottom of your Instant Pot
  • Insert trivet. (Or not. I’m not going to micromanage you.) Stack eggs on trivet, or in a steamer basket on the trivet. Or just rawdog it right into the pot.
  • Cook at high pressure (valve closed) for 3 minutes.
  • Allow natural pressure release for around 5 or 10 minutes. When you’re ready, quick release any remaining pressure and open ‘er up!
  • Flood the pot with cold water to cool the eggs and dry them off. Pop them in the fridge until you want one. The are great warm, too!easiest instant pot hard boiled eggs

☕ Notes About This Thing

  • Many people swear by the 5/5/5 method – 5 minutes high pressure, 5 minutes natural release, 5 minutes ice bath. That works, too. I just do better with fewer steps.
  • I have spaced these off for over 30 minutes on occasion. They don’t burn but you can get that little dark ring around your yolk if you’re crazy slow getting back to them. I’m sure by this point neither of us need to specify how I know this.
